The municipality of Emmen is again allocating 50,000 euros for buying admission tickets for Kamp Westerbork Remembrance Center. Residents of the municipality of Emmen can therefore visit the center for free.

The CDA brought a motion for this during the municipal meeting, which was supported in the council. According to party leader Rene Wittendorp, not everyone has had the opportunity to use the promotion. “Everything was gone within two weeks. Not everyone was aware or was able to respond in time.”

Given the great interest, there is a clear need among the residents, according to Wittendorp. “With the increasing unrest and polarization in the world, the story of Westerbork teaches us an important lesson.” In total, 5200 residents made use of the promotion.

The CDA’s proposal is a follow -up to an earlier action from November. At the end of last year it was announced that the remembrance center was in heavy weather. The center could then count on a lot of support. Emmen decided to buy 50,000 euros in tickets, after which municipalities such as Assen, Tynaarlo and Meppel also contributed. Shortly thereafter, support was also promised from the Lower House.
