As of today, Dick Lukkien can join a row with, among others, singer Daniel Lohues, skater Kjeld Nuis and former mayor Cees Bijl. Today the former trainer of FC Emmen received the medal of honor from the municipality of Emmen and was thus made an honorary citizen of that place.
Today was the closing meeting for Lukkien in which he said goodbye to the players, staff and employees of FC Emmen. The trainer will start working at FC Groningen, which also relegated from the premier league this season.
Dick Lukkien received the award from mayor Eric van Oosterhout. According to him, he has contributed to the reputation of Emmen. “Dick Lukkien has written history with FC Emmen in the past seven seasons. He managed to guide the club to the Eredivisie no less than twice. Dick is not only an excellent trainer, but also an accessible, pleasant and social person who is also involved in managed to build a warm relationship with the supporters. In both good and bad times he kept the overview and calm.”
Emmen now has a total of eighteen honorary citizens.
