After Croissants in Paris and Dolce Vita in Rome, Emily is moving to Venice: The Netflix series “Emily in Paris” is to be shot in the lagoon city in August.

As the President of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia, announced on social media, the historic old town between August 15 and 25 will be the scenes of the fifth season. Zaia wrote with pride. “We’ll see you on the set, in our beautiful Venice.” So far, Netflix has not officially confirmed the shooting in the city.

According to Netflix, the fifth season is probably to be seen at the end of the year. The series is actually located in the French capital, but the new episodes occur temporarily in Rome. In spring, the team around the leading actress Lily Collins moved to the eternal city. After that, Emily should go back to Paris, now apparently with a detour to the Serenissima.

Protests in Venice?

The filming falls in the middle of the city’s high season, which complains about mass tourism anyway. For another reason, Venice is already in an international spotlight. The wedding of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos with Lauren Sánchez Bezos in the city recently caused a stir. Some locals reacted with protests against increasing event tourism and criticized that the city became a stage for super -rich.

Fan tourism

Emily also ensures fan tourism: her fictional house in Paris and her favorite café are real visitor magnets. This is less well received by many Parisians – according to media reports, even graffiti was spotted with messages such as “Emily Not Welcome” (“Emily is not welcome”).
