He is one of the top performers and stars of the biathlon world. But the Olympic silver medalist in Beijing, Émilien Jacquelin, is talking about ending his career.

He is one of France’s best biathletes: Émilien Jacquelin. The 30-year-old is already a five-time world champion and has two Olympic silver medals hanging in his trophy cabinet. Next year, precious metal or even gold could be added at the games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo – but then Jacquelin could imagine giving up sport.

He now indicated this at a press conference, which “Nordic Mag” reported on. Jacquelin said: “After the Olympics I don’t know what I’m going to do. I thought about it a lot during the preparation and honestly it will depend on how much energy I have.”

The Frenchman won gold in the mixed relay at the World Championships this year. With this he also won Olympic silver in Beijing. Émilien Jacquelin still dreams of an individual medal at the Olympics. “I would like to shine at the Games in Milan because I miss this individual medal,” said Jacquelin, who stressed that such a medal “would make him proud.”

If he wins gold, Jacquelin could also imagine ending his career at its peak: “I am firmly convinced that after an Olympic victory I don’t necessarily have to continue and achieve even more.”

The service provider also discussed the reasons for this. In relation to this, he also mentioned the intensive preparations: “It takes a lot of willpower and commitment to prepare for a biathlon season and I don’t want to do things by halves.” Then he became clear: “I’m not going to keep going just to keep going.”

But the last word hasn’t been said yet: “I’m open to everything, to other projects, to continuing or quitting.”
