44th in the world tennis rankings Emil Ruusuvuori advanced to the second round of the Montreal ATP tournament. He defeated the Swiss, a fading superstar of the sport Stan Wawrinka in three sets (6–3, 3–6, 6–3).

In a two-hour match, the 23-year-old Finn managed to break the tennis king’s pass three times.

In the first set, Ruusuvuori immediately broke Wawrinka’s first serve. In the second set, the Swiss managed to break twice and Ruusuvuori once.

In the third set, Ruusuvuori took the decisive break in a 3–2 situation. Wawrinka had one break point of his own in the last moments of the match, but the Finn rose from the predicament and took the match point at the first attempt.

The 37-year-old Wawrinka has been at number three in the world rankings. He started his professional career already in 2002, when Ruusuvuori was three years old. Today, the faded star can be found at number 322.

– I grew up watching Stan on the field. I have great respect for him. He is still a fierce competitor who has inspired many people. This match was a dream come true for me, Ruusuvuori commented after the game in an on-field interview.

In the next round, Ruusuvuoren has a chance to win again the 11th place in the ATP list Hubert Hurkacz.

Rusuvuori beat him last week in Washington in the second round. The match will be played early Wednesday night Finnish time.
