The Netherlands in Resistance wants to walk through the streets of Harderwijk with a so-called Walk of Freedom. This organization held several protests against the corona measures during the corona pandemic. The initiators planned to visit the homes of minister Christianne van der Wal and Norbert Dikkeboom. At the end of last year, Dikkeboom submitted a collective declaration to the Public Prosecution Service against Willem Engel. More than 22,000 people had signed it. They argued that Engel was guilty of, among other things, sedition.

For safety reasons, an emergency ordinance had already been set up around the home of nitrogen minister Van der Wal. Her house is located within the municipality of Harderwijk. Farmers have already visited the house several times and broke through a police barrier.

The new regulation applies until Saturday 2 July at 4 a.m. This gives the police the opportunity to carry out preventive searches when necessary. The police can also ask people to leave the municipality of Harderwijk.

“Freedom of expression is a great asset in the Netherlands. I will therefore cooperate in allowing a demonstration within our municipal boundaries,” said Mayor Van Schaik. And, referring to earlier unrest: “It is very important to me to guarantee public order and safety.”
