Ukrainian teachers who want to teach here will also be compensated for this. This can be read in the emergency decree submitted by Koen Daniëls (N-VA), Loes Vandromme (CD&V) and Jean-Jacques De Gucht (Open Vld). Those lessons can be in emergency villages, where students in Ukrainian follow the Ukrainian curriculum, but also in a Flemish school. There, teachers can count on compensation even before their diploma is recognised.
In addition, the decree also has consequences for adult students from Ukraine: the registration fee for Ukrainians who follow adult education will lapse. In addition, schools and local authorities will also organize a summer offer, tailored to refugee Ukrainian children. During the summer months, they will be able to participate voluntarily and free of charge in a range of lessons in combination with games and sports. The government bears the costs for this: Flanders provides 22.5 euros per child per half day, local authorities can count on € 20 per person. “Recently, we structurally anchored summer schools in our Flemish education, now we are also making them accessible to Ukrainian students,” said Flemish MP Jean-Jacques De Gucht. “A summer offer can also make the difference for them to start the new school year stronger in September.”
