Employees of social work company EMCO in Coevorden are angry. Due to new tax measures, many of them are financially deteriorating and some even get into problems financially. That’s why they take action today.
The canteen of the EMCO location along the Monierweg in Coevorden is well filled. At the table are angry staff members and one of them is Jan Pomp. He receives less money every month than before.
“It is about seven tens a month, that is really a lot of money for me and others. Life, among other things because of the groceries, has become much more expensive. People just have to make ends meet to make ends meet.”
Lies van der Heide is sitting next to Pomp. She too has to do it with less money every month and her situation is perhaps even more worrying. “I have the car for sale and I have to ask my son for money to do shopping. Otherwise it won’t work anymore.”
What exactly is going on? Since 1 January, the government has changed the tax rates to make full time work more attractive. But they therefore work out financially for part -time workers.
And there is the problem for the employees of the social work provision, says FNV director Elanda de Boer. “Full -time working is not possible for people with a work disability, because they need moments of rest more often.”
