The facts date from a year ago. The police discovered the dogs, Marley and Bailey, by accident in a house in Ostend. They were completely malnourished, had barn spots on their fur and struggled with kidney problems. The owners refused to seek medical help. Animal shelter The Blue Cross of the coast took the animals.
“Such neglect has never occurred in the history of the Blue Cross of the coast. It was really the most basic needs: water, dog food and medical care. The drinking bowl was empty, there was nothing in the feeding bin and people had not gone to the vet for years, ”says Kristiaan Vandenbussche, lawyer of the Blauwe Kruis. “Without intervention of the shelter, the animals would have died a silent death.”
