National coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg paid Austria’s European Championship team a big compliment for entering the quarter-finals against her team.

“Congratulations to Austria! I think it’s absolutely deserved, they did very well against England,” said the 54-year-old after Austria’s 1-0 win over Norway. The Austrians will play against the DFB women next Thursday in London-Brentford for a place in the semi-finals.

“We’re looking forward to a neighborhood duel and a total statement for the women’s Bundesliga because there are so many players in this league. You know each other well,” said Voss-Tecklenburg. “Now we’re going to play against Finland first, then we’ll have all eyes on Austria.”

The goal for Austria at the end of Group B was scored by Nicole Billa from Hoffenheim, who was “Footballer of the Year” in her home country and in Germany in 2021. The DFB women will play against Finland at the end of the preliminary round on Saturday (9 p.m. CEST/ZDF and DAZN), but they are already top of the table in Group B.
