The kiss scandal after the 2023 World Cup final could result in a special motivation for the European Championship final on Sunday for Spain’s footballers. At least that believes that in midfielder Ella Toone by opponent England.
“After their World Cup title, everyone only talked about this topic. It was difficult for her and not deserved. So you couldn’t really celebrate your great tournament,” said Toone on Friday.
After the World Cup final in Australia against England, the then Spanish football association chief Luis Rubiales player Jennifer Hermoso grabbed her head with both hands at the award ceremony and kissed it on his mouth.
This was later seen as a “sexual assault” and, among other things, sanctioned with a fine of 10,800 euros.
“It was a difficult time for the Spaniards,” said toone before the duel on Sunday (6:00 p.m./ZDF and DAZN): “Both want to win, and both have their own reasons for it. I think it will be a difficult game,” said the 25-year-old from Manchester United.
