Electricity consumption in Belgium fell by 3.3 percent last year, records broken in terms of production of renewable energy

Electricity consumption in Belgium fell by 3.3 percent last year compared to 2021 to 81.7 terawatt hours (TWh). Due to the high energy prices, consumers reduced their consumption, high-voltage grid operator Elia reported on Friday. Renewable energy production continued to increase, breaking several records. The share of nuclear energy in the country’s energy mix fell below 50 percent.
