Ekehaar receives 500,000 euros from the municipality of Aa and Hunze for the renovation of De Eekhof village house. The foundation that manages the village house now has almost enough money to get started.
Aa and Hunze had already set the money for the renovation and has now finally decided to transfer the amount. As a result, the De Eekhof Foundation only needs two tons of the required 1.6 million euros.
The village house of Ekehaar stands for a complete metamorphosis, secretary Marleen Eerland told RTV Drenthe last October. At the front comes a modern extension with glass walls. That must be a living room where residents and club members from the Broek region can meet.
The building is more than fifty years old and has a lot of overdue maintenance. It is too small and the interior is dated. The foundation also wants to make the building more sustainable. The gym, which is also used as a theater space, is being expanded.
“We are a long way with the amount we need,” says Eerland, who is very happy with the half million from Aa and Hunze. “We are still waiting for a number of subsidy requests and I will write down some smaller funds this week. Furthermore, we want to raise some money from residents from the Broek region.”
The plan to start the renovation before the summer has been adjusted. Eerland thinks it is more realistic to start at the end of 2025. “We are still looking at when we will give a ‘go’. Maybe we can start from start and meanwhile get the last money together.”
