The Eisbären Berlin have once again created excitement in the race for the last quarter-final ticket for the playoffs of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).

The champions won against the relegated Dresdner Eislöwen 5:2 (2:1, 1:1, 2:0) and are now only one point behind the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven, who lost to the Straubing Tigers at home 1:3 (1:1, 0:1, 0:1).

Bremerhaven (74 points) is in sixth place four game days before the end of the main round, Berlin (73) is seventh. The first five teams in the table have already qualified for the quarter-finals. Andreas Eder (48th/4:2) and Jonas Müller (49th/5:2) made everything clear for the Eisbären with a double strike in Dresden.

The Kölner Haie continued their record hunt on the 48th matchday. After the 6:2 (2:0, 2:1, 2:1) over the Augsburg Panthers, the main round winner has 113 points, the Adler Mannheimer’s best score from 2019 (116) is not far away. The Sharks can draw level with the Eagles in Mannheim as early as Friday.

In the first game after parting ways with coach Mike Stewart, the Grizzlys Wolfsburg beat ERC Ingolstadt 4:1 (1:0, 1:1, 2:0) and ended their negative streak after three defeats. On Tyler Haskins’ debut behind the boards, Fabio Pfohl put the lid on the game with a goal into the empty net (59′). Wolfsburg (68) consolidated seventh place and, at least mathematically, still has a chance of a direct quarter-final ticket.
