The Eisbären Berlin go into the German Cup break of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) as league leaders.
On Sunday, the capital city team won 4-1 (0-0, 1-1, 3-0) at runners-up ERC Ingolstadt and celebrated their sixth away win in a row. Zach Boychuk, Yannick Veilleux, Tobias Eder and Manuel Wiederer ensured Berlin’s deserved success in a high-class game with their goals.
In front of 4,334 spectators in the Ingolstadt Arena, the guests defended consistently from the start and created some promising chances. They just missed using their superiority to score goals before the first break.
That changed after the restart: Boychuk put the capital city team in the lead with his tenth goal of the season. A little later, Eisbären goalie Jonas Stettmer also had to admit defeat. Maurice Edwards equalized for Upper Bavaria.
In what was already an intense encounter, both teams increased the pace once again. But only the Berliners took advantage of their opportunities. First Veilleux and Eder were successful in the final period, then Wiederer scored the final score when the Ingolstadt team took their goalkeeper Michael Garteig off the ice in favor of a sixth skater in the power play.
