For Bundesliga soccer club Eintracht Frankfurt, the expensive transfer investment for center forward Elye Wahi has not paid off at all so far. Apparently the Frenchman is now about to say goodbye again.
According to transfer reporter Santi Aouna, Elye Wahi from Eintracht Frankfurt is moving forward with his departure. The 22-year-old is said to have already agreed on a move with French first division club OGC Nice.
Wahi, who was only signed last January for 26 million euros, was actually “determined” to assert himself at Eintracht Frankfurt. Ultimately, he was convinced by his former sponsor Franck Haise, says Aouna. The 54-year-old was head coach at RC Lens between 2020 and 2024, where Wahi caused a sensation with twelve goals in the 2023/24 season.
Now, according to the transfer reporter, the two clubs just have to agree on a transfer in the winter. Since Nice cannot make full financial use, they are aiming for a loan deal in the south of France. The question of salary distribution also needs to be clarified. He still has a contract with Eintracht Frankfurt until 2030.
Frankfurt’s new signing is still without a Bundesliga goal
Elye Wahi was signed in January as the successor to top striker Omar Marmoush, who had moved to Manchester City. Since then, the Frenchman has not been able to meet the expectations placed on him.
After a lack of training, the new signing was initially unable to establish himself in the starting lineup and was also sidelined in the second half of the season due to a knee injury. Even after 18 Bundesliga games, Elye Wahi is still completely without a goal for his new employer, only in the DFB Cup was he successful in the first round duel against outsiders FV Engers.
The first rumors began circulating at the end of October that Eintracht Frankfurt were considering leaving the striker. According to “Bild”, the 22-year-old is now said to have been “very actively” looking for a new club.
