Mario Götze will no longer be used for Eintracht Frankfurt this season. This was announced by Coach Dino Toppmöller before the 33rd matchday against FC St. Pauli on Sunday (5:30 p.m./DAZN). Götze suffered a muscle injury in his thigh in the quarter-finals of the Europa League second leg against Tottenham Hotspur.
In the home game against St. Pauli, Eintracht can make it clear to the Champions League without Götze on its own. The lead of the third -placed Hesse is five points in fifth place. “Everything is arranged,” emphasized Toppmöller. “I go to this last home game with a very great anticipation.”
Even before the game kick -off, it was clear that the Frankfurters will play in the premier class in the coming season if the competition previously fails. But Toppmöller does not want to rely on it. “And when the situation occurs like this, you may go into such a game with an even better feeling.”
