Eintracht Frankfurt flies home from Finland with their heads held high. The Hessians can draw a lot of positive things from the defeat against Real Madrid.

Eintracht Frankfurt has the game over lost the Supercup against Real Madrid 0:2 (0:1).. In Helsinki, the Europa League winner drew the short straw against the Champions League winner. David Alaba (37th minute) and Karim Benzema scored for the Spaniards (65th)

Markus Krösche (Sports Director Eintracht Frankfurt): “We met a team today that was better in every respect. We deserved to lose, but we did well. We have the first chance of the game, if we take that the game could end differently, but Real were able to pick up the pace and intensity again and again today. But that’s not a bad thing either, because Real Madrid isn’t our benchmark. They are on a completely different level than we are. The boys have done everything. Our benchmark is the Bundesliga and Hertha BSC. We have to be measured by that.”

Oliver Glasner (Eintracht Frankfurt coach): “We improved after the Bayern game. The team did well most of the time. But Real Madrid were the better team and deserved to win. We played at our upper level. That wasn’t enough against Real today. The performance makes me very confident for the next week.”

Kevin Trapp (at DAZN): “We lost the game today, but you can tell how proud the fans are of us. We also had chances, but overall we put in a decent performance. It was a lot better than against Bayern. It was a nice game with a not so nice ending for us.”

Sebastian Rode (at DAZN): “Unfortunately it wasn’t enough today, but it was a much better performance than against Bayern. We focused more on the basics. But you have to take your chances against the Champions League winners, we didn’t do that. Chris (Lenz, editor’s note) did a good job today. He’s obviously not a 1-1 replacement for Filip Kostic, but he’ll still be very important for us this season.”

Carlo Ancelotti (Real Madrid coach, at DAZN): “We deserved the final, just like Eintracht. It was a good game, we had problems finding space at the beginning. But after the first goal we did well. We have a lot of confidence right now. We didn’t play a spectacular game, but we were very solid.”

Toni Kroos (on RTL): “We didn’t expect anything else. It was clear to us that Frankfurt wouldn’t be as open as they were against Bayern. They had the first big chance, and if they scored it would be even worse. After our goal we were pretty good at it Griff. Kostic’s departure is already very difficult. I don’t know if they will be able to do it again. But then they have a team that can always be uncomfortable.”
