In January 2025, Eintracht Frankfurt paid Olympique Marseille €26 million for Elye Wahi’s services. A disappointing year later, the 22-year-old attacker is heading back to France, where he will play on loan for OGC Nice until the end of the season. According to reports, the French were unable to secure a purchase option.
When Omar Marmoush was transferred to Manchester City for 75 million euros in January 2025 after an outstanding first half of the season, Eintracht Frankfurt tried to close the gap with Wahi. But the former France junior international was unable to meet the expectations attached to the transfer fee. In 25 games for the SGE he scored one goal and prepared three more. He was not in the squad three times in the last four Bundesliga games.
This resulted in its market value falling from 22 million to 12 million euros in 2025. Wahi didn’t turn out to be a stroke of luck, as many SGE strikers have done in the recent past. He arrived in a record transfer before being replaced by Hugo Ekitiké in the summer after he moved to Liverpool for 95 million euros. The Frankfurt team then had to transfer 20 percent of the transfer profit – 15 million euros – to Paris Saint-Germain, which is why Ekitiké tops the statistics with 31.5 million euros.
“In the French league, Elye Wahi has already shown what he is capable of achieving. We wish him all the best in Nice for the coming months and, above all, that he regains his self-confidence and self-image. We will follow his path closely and are convinced that a loan to an ambitious club makes the most sense for everyone in the current situation,” said sports director Markus Krösche. In Ligue 1, Wahi was involved in 57 goals in 125 games for Montpellier, Lens and Marseille.
