Coach Riera only came to Eintracht Frankfurt in February – and could soon be gone again. What could happen after the BVB game.

Picked up in February Eintracht Frankfurt Albert Riera from NK Celje from Slovenia to the Main. Almost three months later, according to a report from Sky Sport, the Spaniard is already facing the end again, although his contract runs until 2028.

This has not been officially confirmed. But the dpa news agency also writes that it is almost impossible that Riera will lead Eintracht into the next season.

The numbers are not encouraging: from twelve Bundesliga games under Riera, Frankfurt achieved one win, one draw and one defeat four times. Eighth place in the table is not enough for a place in the European Cup with two match days to go. According to the dpa, there has recently been irritation over Riera’s appearance in public.

According to Sky Sport, Riera said at the pre-match press conference: “I’m not worried about my future, that’s not important. All that matters is the team and getting points in these two games.” At the same time, he was aware of the reality of his job: “I say to myself: ‘Albert, if you don’t win enough, someone else will.’ That’s how it is. We have to accept – starting with me – that if you don’t win, you have to accept criticism.”

According to Sky Sport, the away game at BVB this Friday evening (8.30 p.m.) could be a turning point, and in the worst case scenario for Riera’s job. The broadcaster names possible successors, including former Bundesliga professional Matthias Jaissle, currently a coach in Saudi Arabia.

There is hardly anything at stake for BVB in terms of sport: Dortmund are almost certainly runners-up and have already qualified for the Champions League. Before kick-off, three players will say goodbye, including Niklas Süle, who recently announced the end of his career at the age of 30.
