Eintracht Braunschweig separates from sports director Peter Vollmann

Bottom of the second division

Second division bottom club Eintracht Braunschweig has parted ways with sports director Peter Vollmann with immediate effect. The BTSV announced this on Tuesday. Sports director Benjamin Kessel will take over his duties and will expand his area of responsibility. The 65-year-old Vollmann has been working at Eintracht since the summer of 2019, initially as sports director before being promoted further. As a coach, he was also on the sidelines for Braunschweig from 2001 to 2002.

“We know about Peter Vollmann’s commendable work and great commitment, and he deserves our thanks for that. Under his leadership, we were promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2020 and 2022 as well as staying in the league at the end of last season,” said Jens-Uwe Freitag, chairman of the supervisory board. “After the weak start to the season and an in-depth analysis of the past few months, we have come to the decision to make a change in the sporting management with a view to the future.” BTSV only got five points from twelve games and are already eight points behind the first non-relegation place.

Vollmann explained: “I have always enjoyed working for Eintracht and would like to thank the committees, Wolfram Benz and all employees for the trusting cooperation. I wish the team and the entire Eintracht all the best and keep my fingers crossed for the fight to stay in the league. I am convinced that she can and will achieve her goal.”

Eintracht Braunschweig: Kessel becomes Vollmann’s successor earlier than planned

Kessel, in office since May, is now following in Vollmann’s footsteps more quickly than expected. Nicole Kumpis, President and Deputy Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board, said: “We hired Benjamin Kessel as sports director in the summer with the clear intention of building him up to be Peter Vollmann’s successor. He will now take on more responsibility in his position earlier than originally planned and expand his area of responsibility. We have full confidence in Benjamin and will support him as best we can.”

The former Braunschweig professional stated that he was ready to take on more responsibility now. “The main goal is to work with the new head coach to stabilize the team as quickly as possible and achieve a turnaround!” Daniel Scherning is considered a promising candidate to succeed Jens Härtel.
