Eintracht Braunschweig manages to stay up in the league despite a 2-1 loss at Hansa Rostock

Eintracht Braunschweig made the league perfect. Despite a 2-1 (0-0) defeat at FC Hansa Rostock, who had previously been rescued, the Lower Saxony remain in the second Bundesliga.

The BTSV benefited from the simultaneous 0: 4 disaster of table 16. Arminia Bielefeld at 1. FC Magdeburg. The East Westphalians, who went into the season finale two points behind the “Lions”, now have to fight to stay in the league in the relegation against SV Wehen Wiesbaden. Eintracht, on the other hand, can now plan for another season in the Bundesliga lower house.

Immanuel Pherai scored on Sunday with a penalty kick (69th) for coach Michael Schiele’s team, who had to play outnumbered for a long time. Anton Donkor was sent off in the 22nd minute with a yellow-red card. Lukas Fröde put Hansa in the lead (59′), Pascal Breier scored the winning goal for Mecklenburg in added time (90’+3′).

Kaufmann misses the 1-0, Donkor sees yellow-red

Eintracht showed from the start that they take their destiny into their own hands and not on blunders in table 16. Bielefeld (at 1. FC Magdeburg) and 1. FC Nuremberg (at SC Paderborn). In the 14th minute, Fabio Kaufmann had the Braunschweig lead on his feet, but failed to keeper Markus Kolke. The proper start was soon followed by the shock for the guests when Donkor saw the “traffic light card” for repeated foul play.

Outnumbered, the BTSV first had to rearrange itself and was lucky that referee Daniel Schlager (Hügelsheim) denied a Rostock goal by Kevin Schumacher after viewing the TV pictures because Lukas Hinterseer was offside when the offensive man finished and keeper Ron -Thorben Hoffmann had blocked the view (24th).

Ujah goal does not count, Braunschweig saved at the break

Take a deep breath at BTSV, who then acted at eye level with Hansa despite being outnumbered and were unlucky on their part that a goal by Anthony Ujah was taken back by referee Schlager (43rd). In this case, too, an offside position was the reason for the referee’s correct decision. So it went into the break with a performance-based draw. A result that the guests could live with. Especially since Bielefeld was 2-0 down in Magdeburg after 45 minutes.

At this point, the “Lions” had a lead of three points and six goals over East Westphalia. The fact that Nuremberg led 1-0 in Paderborn and thus overtook Eintracht in the live table was irrelevant for the relegation battle at that moment.

Pherai counters the Hansa leadership by Fröde

Before the start of the second round, there was already a lot to be said for Braunschweig’s relegation. And when Magdeburg made it 3-0 up against Bielefeld in the 50th minute, Lower Saxony no longer had to worry about falling back to the relegation zone. Is that why there was a small drop in voltage at the BTSV? hypothetical! The fact was: Hansa acted more resolutely and purposefully and took the lead through Fröde, who deserved a throw-in from Ryan Malone. FCM’s 4-0 win against Arminia in the Ostseestadion soon made the news. Now Bielefeld needed a very, very big football miracle to turn the game around. It didn’t happen.

However, Eintracht did not give up the duel with the Rostockers, who now clearly set the tone. Own offensive actions were rather rare. Because Schumacher went to work against Kaufmann in his own penalty area and caused a penalty, the guests equalized. The courted Pherai transformed safely.

However, it was not enough for the Lower Saxony to win a point, because Breier, who came on as a substitute, scored from a few meters to make it 2-1 shortly before the end.
