After leaving Norwich City in summer, ex-Braunschweiger Onel Hernández (32) remains in the English championship. The offensive player, who grew up in Germany, signed a short -term contract with the promoted Charlton Athletic until the turn of the year.

Hernández changed from BTSV to Norwich in January 2018 for EUR 3.1 million – the lion’s record sales until today. For the Canaries, the Cuban international – only interrupted by one season as a loan in Middlesbrough and Birmingham – completed 210 games in which he contributed 15 goals and 26 templates. With Norwich, Hernández became second division champion twice.

“Onel brings really good experience out of the championship. We observed him during training for a few weeks and found that he has excellent athletics and real qualities in one-on-one,” said coach Nathan Jones. “We had the feeling that we needed reinforcement in this area. (…) He came here, made a good impression and demonstrated his qualities.”

Hernández added: “I am very happy to be here. I have known the coach for a long time and have played against his teams. He is a very good coach who knows what he was expecting from his players. When I talked to Nathan, I knew immediately that I wanted to be there.” The climber from London is seventh in the Championship table after seven match days with eleven points.
