Doula (dpa) – record holder Egypt has moved into the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup in Cameroon. The team of Liverpool star and captain Mo Salah had to tremble against Ivory Coast, however, because Egypt only prevailed 5-4 on penalties.
After regular time and extra time, it was 0-0 at the Stade de Japoma in Douala. After Gabaski, who came on as a substitute in the 88th minute for the injured first-choice goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy, saved an Eric Bailly penalty, it was England Legionnaire Salah who safely converted the fifth and decisive penalty for his team. Egypt now meet Morocco in the quarter-finals of the prestigious football tournament.
In the other quarter-finals, hosts Cameroon and Gambia as well as Burkina Faso and Tunisia meet. Senegal plays against the winner of the game Mali vs Equatorial Guinea.
