HEMA will be fully owned by the Jumbo Van Eerd family from Veghel. The family’s company that makes these types of investments already owned 50 percent of the shares of HEMA.
The Van Eerd family’s company, Mississippi Ventures, is now acquiring the remaining 50 percent from the Dutch investment company Parcom. Both shareholders announced this in a joint press statement on Tuesday.
They do not report how much money is involved in the takeover. The takeover still must be approved by the supervisory authority of the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) and is also dependent on the advice of HEMA’s works council.
Exist separately
Jumbo and HEMA will continue to exist separately and, according to the statement, can strengthen each other thanks to this step. “It will also enable HEMA to further invest in the brand and customer experience in the coming years to further develop the chosen path of growth and appeal,” the shareholders say.
Mississippi Ventures took a 50 percent stake in HEMA in 2021. According to HEMA CEO Saskia Egas Reparaz, the chain continues to invest in attractive stores, employees and the range. The more than 17,000 employees will keep their jobs with this step. They were informed of the takeover on Tuesday morning.
Jumbo and HEMA have been working together for some time. Yet consumers would not be impressed by this collaboration. Experts previously question the cooperation between the retail chains.
