Edwin Evers announced in his radio show that he has diabetes and that he finds it horrible, but is now being given the wind. “I think this is quite a dramatic statement!”

Radio 538 DJ Edwin Evers announced in a rather bombastic way in his radio show that he has diabetes. “So I heard a week and a half ago that I have that,” said the radio maker. “Your life comes to a standstill for a moment when you hear that. It was a bit strange, because I thought I was living a pretty healthy life in general.”

One thing

Edwin knows he is one of the many, but still finds it horrible. “It’s one thing you hear a lot around you, public disease number one, I believe almost a million people have it,” he says.

According to the radio maker, the diagnosis requires some changes to his lifestyle. He has to make a lot of adjustments in his diet, eating habits and exercise. “Mentally I’m not done with it yet. Just one thing.”

Poser

Can Edwin now count on sympathy? No. He is being dealt with quite harshly in the comment forum NU.nl. “’Your life has come to a standstill for a while’ is quite a dramatic statement,” says a certain Patrick. “I think it is quite exaggerated. I was also told not long ago, nothing to worry about. It is not type 1, which is many times more intense.”

It does indeed affect your lifestyle, according to Patrick. “So yes: eat differently, exercise more as far as possible and pay attention to what sugar it contains. If you pay attention to this, you notice that many products nowadays contain unnecessary sugar, even in certain tea bags. But to say that your life has come to a standstill for a while? That is the case with cancer, not with diabetes 2.”

Kilimanjaro

A certain Gerard also thinks that Edwin is exaggerating. “I can understand that it scares you, but upon further inquiry it turns out that many people around you also have diabetes and they live normally. I have had diabetes 2 for a long time myself, but eat and drink everything. I have even climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, so a lot is possible.”

Another diabetes patient gives Edwin a tip. “A tip that helped me to bring my glucose level back to normal within four months; in addition to your metformin, take a sip of pure olive oil in the morning and in the evening. Try to consume as little sugar as possible. Success is assured.”

End of the world

Regenboog thinks that Edwin should calm down for a moment. “It’s not the end of the world. There are so many people with type 2. My son got type 1 when he was 12, always exercising and living a healthy lifestyle. My grandson when he was 9 years old. (…) Just living a healthy life. I think it’s a bit exaggerated. Type 2 is a lot easier.”

And Alicia concludes: “The fact that your life comes to a standstill when you hear that you have diabetes is a bit of an exaggeration. It can be controlled very well if you adhere to certain conditions. You can live to be 100 with it!”
