Edward Enninful steps down as editor-in-chief of British Vogue

British Vogue Editor-in-Chief Edward Enninful has resigned. As the “Guardian” reported on Saturday, citing a letter to the workforce, the 51-year-old is to remain active in a new role within the Condé Nast publishing house in an advisory capacity for the fashion magazine “Vogue”. Enninful became the first black man to head the influential magazine since 2017. Under his direction, people with disabilities and a male model were shown on the cover for the first time.

Also under his aegis, Duchess Meghan, Prince Harry’s wife, designed an issue of British “Vogue” in 2019! entitled “Forces for Change”. The cover featured a portrait of climate activist Greta Thunberg.

It was initially unclear who would succeed Enninful. As the so-called European Editorial Director, Enninful also had an influence on the “Vogue” editions in Germany, France, Spain and Italy from London. The Guardian reported speculation that Enninful could now be in a good position to succeed US Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, 73, in New York.

Speaking of his first cover as head of British Vogue in late 2017 with model Adwoa Aboah, daughter of a British aristocrat and Ghanaian immigrant, Enninful once said: “It was important to create a cover that represented Britain today reflects a multicultural society where everyone was welcome – where my family was welcome.” (dpa)
