Eddie Vedder, Foxes and alt-J

The third edition of our new Albums of the Week format – in which we present the three most exciting record releases of the week every Friday – features the releases of Cate Le Bon, The Jazz Butcher and Mitski. The reviews come from RS authors and editors who have dealt extensively with the respective albums.

Eddie Vedder’s new solo record “Earthling” proves it: The Pearl Jam singer is a master of hugging and overpowering, spreading many sparks of confidence in a dark time. fFor his new solo record, the musician has invited many prominent personnel to the studio, including two (ex) Chili Peppers, Chad Smith and Josh Klinghoffer.

When all the clubs that survived the corona crisis open again, we will dance to the songs of Louisa Rose Allen, who calls herself the Foxes, and celebrate the new lightheartedness. All of the songs on “The Kick” are written for better times, yearning for crowds on the dance floor and spinning around in circles.

There, where Arcade Fire and Lana Del Rey say good night to sink into strangely beautiful dream worlds, that’s where alt-J make themselves comfortable with their fourth album. The songs of the trio from Leeds again resemble curiously multi-layered pop collages, even if this time the band works more on the blues than on hip-hop.
