Sheeran surprises fans with acoustic set
The fans in Landover were probably a little puzzled when the support part of the evening began: Instead of the “New Normal” singer Khalid, who accompanies Sheeran during his “+ – = ÷ x” (“Mathematics”) tour, suddenly stepped already the main act on the plan. With his acoustic guitar under his arm, he addressed the audience and explained his premature appearance. ” [Khalid] is recovering, we wish him all the best,” the British singer explained the absence of his tour partner, who was recently involved in a car accident. “And I’ll say that after every song, because if people don’t know who the opening act should be today, they’re going to come in and be like, ‘This show isn’t what I had in mind,'” Sheeran continued , adding wryly, “‘I thought there were more fireworks here.'”
The “Thinking Out Loud” singer, who just won a plagiarism case, entertained his audience like this for half an hour before the actual show. Sheeran performed acoustic renditions of songs from his new album (SUBSTRACT), which was awarded four out of six stars by ME editor Anastasia Rutkowski. “It’s usually pitch dark when I play and now I can finally see everyone. That’s fantastic,” joked the regular chart topper about the situation, which was unfamiliar to him.
Sheeran also wished Khalid a speedy recovery and hoped the Texan would be able to accompany him back to Boston. Ed Sheeran will still be playing in cities in the USA and Canada until September. In April of this year he was already able to inspire the Berlin audience in the Admiralspalast.
