Economic data in focus: Weak trading on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange – DAX gives way

The DAX started Friday trading up 0.53 percent at 15,884.79 points. He also booked profits afterwards, but then gave them up as the game progressed. The stock market barometer is currently 0.40 percent lower at 15,737.19 points.

DAX depends on Wall Street

“The guidelines from the USA are so good that they can’t be ignored. It’s impressive how steeply things went up on Wall Street,” wrote the expert Thomas Altmann from QC Partners in the morning. This gives the DAX the chance to take a new step towards 16,000 points. The leading index can now also brighten up the weekly balance sheet. Recently, however, this goal is becoming more and more distant.

Balance sheets of German corporations still in focus

At the end of the week, the focus is again on a series of balance sheets from Germany and abroad. The plastics group Covestro and Mercedes-Benz have already opened their books in the DAX in the morning. ProSiebenSat.1 had already announced a massive dividend cut and a drop in profit and sales on Thursday evening. In addition, ProSiebenSat.1 is parting ways with CFO Ralf Gierig with immediate effect and by mutual agreement.

German inflation data expected

On the economic side, data from Germany, among others, is published. According to economists, the German economy has just prevented the long-feared winter recession. The Federal Statistical Office announced its first estimate of the performance in the first quarter. Germany’s GDP has recently stagnated, growth of 0.2 percent was expected after a minus of 0.5 percent in the previous quarter.

According to experts, the number of the day is the provisional German inflation rate for April, which will be published in the afternoon. Experts were expecting a slight decline in the monthly and annual rate. However, the data should show once again how tough the decline is.
