On Easter Sunday, the Hamburg Towers return to the Barclays Arena for a special game. There is a historical family duel.

The Veolia Towers Hamburg recently gave their own fans a lot of fun. The team of head coach Benka Barloschky left the parquet as the winner six times in a row at home games in the basketball Bundesliga. On Easter Sunday (3 p.m.), the Hanseates want to continue their winning streak. This time it is played in an unfamiliar hall – against an apparently overpowering opponent.

Instead of in the island park arena, the game against defending champion Bayern Munich takes place in the Barclays Arena am Volkspark. After the successful first game a year ago-also against the southern Germans-the focus was on a special occasion for the towers: the five-year BBL anniversary. At that time, more than 12,000 spectators had set up a new spectator record at a basketball game in Hamburg. So months ago, those responsible decided to move again.

One who was already there at the time is Niklas Wimberg. However, in that memorable duel, the Towers’ professional still ran for Bayern, who won 81:80 after extra time. “It was a hammer game, the atmosphere was great. Exactly what the audience wanted to see,” emphasized the winger. The anticipation is also great with him. Around 10,800 tickets were sold by the beginning of the week.

Sportily, the Hamburgers see themselves well prepared for the duel against the league leader. “We have proven several times this season when we play our best basketball that we can keep up with all teams,” said Benka Barloschky. The coach admitted that the appearances in the Euroleague represent a great burden for the Munich. He also referred to the big squad of the defending champion: “We cannot look into the glass ball. We cannot know who will play against us.”

Baroschky assumes that Justus Hollatz is in the Bavaria contingent. The former Towers’ professional was playing again in the Elbe metropolis for the first time since its farewell in 2022. His brother Jacob is now part of the Towers trainer staff.

“I am pleased for him that he has found a situation in which he has a role,” said Barloschky about the development of Justus Hollatz among Munich: “At the weekend he is still a counter- and no teammate for us. We will do everything he has to work out his weaknesses.”
