Earthquake with magnitude of 6.6 on the Richter scale hits Indonesian capital | Abroad

The earthquake occurred at 4:05 p.m. local time (10:05 a.m. Belgian time) at a depth of 37 kilometers, according to the USGS. The tsunami alarm was not activated and no casualties or damage were reported so far. The earthquake shook the buildings in Jakarta, reporters from the French news agency AFP say.

The archipelago remains scarred by the 9.1 magnitude earthquake of December 26, 2004 off the coast of Sumatra. That earthquake triggered a massive tsunami that killed 220,000 people across the region, including about 170,000 in Indonesia.
