FC Emmen has taken a point against Excelsior, the leader in the Kitchen Champion Division. In De Oude Meerdijk the score was 1-1 against the Rotterdam team, who have six points more than the Drenthe club.
Emmen had a dream start. The home team took the lead in the fifth minute when Nsona came in and served Mike te Wierik with a through ball. The defender then rounded off: 1-0.
After the opening goal, Excelsior took over the initiative. Naujoks was close to the equalizer, but his header ended up in the hands of goalkeeper Unbehaun. After half an hour the team from Rotterdam scored. From a quick counter, Lennard Hartjes shot the ball hard into the top corner from twenty meters: 1-1. With that score, both teams went to rest.
The first half was energetic, and both teams continued in the same vein in the second act. The first big chance was for the guests. Excelsior had an opportunity to take a lead through Fini. The attacker was able to shoot from close range, but Unbehaun made a good save. At the other end, Hawkins was close to scoring, but his shot went wide.
In the final phase it was FC Emmen that pushed to take the win, where Excelsior tried to take the speed out of the game. In the 91st minute, FC Emmen had a great chance through Hawkins, but his cross to Landu was too far behind the man.
Due to this 1-1, FC Emmen has not been able to close the gap on the leader and will travel to Jong AZ as number five next Friday.
