The Ministries of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) and Justice and Security (J&V) are joining forces to improve cooperation between care, municipalities and the police for people with confused or misunderstood behaviour.

With the extra €59 million via the Ministry of J&V, on top of the €52 million previously made available by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, the regional cooperation between parties from the healthcare, security and social domains in the Action Program Grip on Incomprehension will receive an extra boost. impulse. The police, municipalities and care providers/assistants will collaborate more intensively, for example by deploying a district GGD officer who forms the link between care, the municipality and the police. Thanks to this connection, people who need care are identified earlier, and we can prevent people with confused and/or misunderstood behavior from coming into contact with the police unnecessarily.

The group of people with confused and/or misunderstood behavior is a very diverse target group with different types of problems. These are often people who do not ask for help themselves, even though it would benefit them. Problems then pile up further, with the result that over time someone loses more and more grip on their life.

Minister Yesilgöz and Minister Helder will visit Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht in April and May to discuss with the parties involved in these municipalities how care and support for people with confused and misunderstood behavior can be improved. The Ministries of Health, Welfare and Sport and J&V will also organize a tour of the security regions in 2023 to encourage cooperation between the various parties involved. Parties can apply for a subsidy via ZonMw as of 15 March.
