Dwayne Johnson recalls his days as a candy bar gangster

35 years after its release, the lyrics of The Smith’s “Shoplifters of the World Unite” are updated with a stirring anecdote from the Pacific region. On his socials, US superstar and ex-wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson confessed to past transgressions he committed when he was a teenager in Hawaii.

He admitted to robbing a 7-Eleven store. The 50-year-old talks about his past as a petty criminal, which he says happened at a time when he and his family were having financial problems.

“We had to leave Hawaii in 1987 and after all these years I finally came home to right that wrong,” he wrote in the caption of a short clip documenting his “gangster days.” “I was totally broke, so I stole a big Snickers from Seven-11 EVERY DAY for almost a year. I was 14 and on my way to the gym.”

Saleswoman probably turned a blind eye

As part of his daily meal, the candy bar gave him little energy for his ambitious training. In his humorous self-indictment, Johnson also suggests that a supermarket employee may have aided his heists by knowingly turning a blind eye when he reached into the candy aisle. “The same saleswoman was there every day, who kept turning her head and never caught me,” he recalls.

As a gesture of reparation, he now bought up all the chocolate bars that were available on site and donated them to customers who happened to be there. A little reminder of a not-so-bright past that Johnson put on an encouraging note:

“We can’t change the past and some of the stupid things we did back then. But if possible, we can remember this time with a small gesture of humility – and maybe put a big smile on the face of strangers.”

“The Rock” can look back on a successful film year, as a “blockbuster” guarantor at the box office. Last October, “Black Adam” landed at number 1 in the US box office charts. The action film grossed $140 million worldwide in its opening weekend.

Dwayne Johnson stays true to his genre

Meanwhile, US media services are reporting on the future projects of the bald giant. Next year, Johnson will star in Red One, an action-adventure comedy whose plot is yet to be revealed.

He is also set to star in a remake of John Carpenter’s classic Big Trouble in Little China (1986). He will also appear in San Andreas 2, the sequel to his 2015 blockbuster of the same name.

The stalwart Johnson will continue to appear prominently in the upcoming Robert Zemeckis film The King Kamehameha as usual.
