Dutchman arrested with 2 million suspicious cigarettes in car

The inspection of the customs services took place last night on the Torhoutse Steenweg in Bruges. The Dutchman tried to escape that control.

“He hit the customs vehicles, and also hit another vehicle. After a chase, the Dutchman of Syrian origin could be arrested,” said a spokesman for the prosecutor’s office.

Nearly 2 million suspected cigarettes

1,920,000 Richmond cigarettes were found in his car. “It is not yet clear whether these are counterfeit cigarettes, but at least the cigarettes did not have the mandatory tax bands,” says the public prosecutor.

The suspect will be brought before the investigating judge for those customs infringements.
