The Netherlands, which already won the 4×50 freestyle on the opening day, achieved a time of 1.42.83. The last Swedish swimmer finished after 1.43.79. For Steenbergen it was the eighth medal in Lublin. Six of them are gold.

Steenbergen won individual titles in the 100 meter freestyle, 200 meter individual medley, 200 meter freestyle and the 100 meter individual medley. She won gold twice with the relay team. She also won silver in the 4×50 medley mixed with the Netherlands and bronze in the 4×50 meter freestyle mixed.
Wonderful evening for Maaike de Waard
De Waard had taken the bronze in the 50 meter backstroke earlier in the evening. The victory went to the Italian Sara Cox, who swam a European record in 25.49 seconds. The Frenchwoman Analia Pigrée came second in 25.96. De Waard achieved a time of 25.97. Giele (26.19) finished fifth.
Another medal: Marrit Steenbergen also grabs gold in the 100 meters free with the European record
De Waard, who had reached the final with the second fastest time, previously took silver in the 100 meter backstroke.
Other finals with Dutch input
Van Roon finished fourth in the 50 meter freestyle. She achieved a time of 23.70. Poland’s Katarzyna Wasick took gold in front of her own audience in 23.20. Milou van Wijk, the second Dutch player in the final, finished sixth: 23.83.
Marte Hieke van der Kamp finished seventh in the final of the 1500 meter freestyle in 16.07.45. After sixty laps, the gold on the longest distance went to the Italian Simona Quadarella: 15.29.93.
Koen de Groot finished in fourth place in the final of the 50 meter breaststroke in 26.01. The win here also went to an Italian: Simone Cerasuolo in 25.67. Thomas Jansen swam in a personal record (4.05.13) to fifth place in the final of the 400 meter individual medley. The victory went to the Italian Alberto Razzetti: 3.58.79.
The Netherlands ended up with seven gold medals, four silver and two bronze. The team finished second in the medal rankings, behind Italy.
