Thomas Ouwejan wants to join the Bundesliga: ‘I am in love with this club’
GELSENKIRCHEN – Thomas Ouwejan doesn’t know what hit him for a while. After the final whistle has sounded on Saturday evening and Schalke 04 is certain of his return to the Bundesliga thanks to a crazy victory over St. Pauli (3-2), the loyal fans of the fallen German superpower are storming their own field by the thousands. “I could barely get away,” recalls the Dutch crowd favorite around midnight, laughing and holding a beer bottle in his hand. The outstanding fullback tells his story in the players’ area near the dressing rooms in the stadium. “Everyone grabbed me. I got hugs, was kissed on my forehead and so on.”
