Dutch author Marieke Lucas Rijneveld wins first Boon literature prize for fiction and non-fiction | Art & Literature

Both authors received the prize during a gala in Ostend. It concerns the very first edition of the literature prize for the best Dutch-language book for fiction and non-fiction on the one hand and the best children’s and youth book on the other. Both also won 50,000 euros. The other nominees in the fiction and non-fiction category were ‘The prison years’ by Erdal Balci, ‘De poel’ by Pauline de Bok, ‘Jaguarman’ by Raoul de Jong and ‘Willem die Madoc’ by Nico Dros.

Gaudesaboos was the only Fleming among the ten nominees in both categories. Because he also won the audience award, he received an extra sum of 5,000 euros. The other nominees in the children’s and youth literature category were ‘De Tunnel’ by Anna Woltz, ‘Films that run nowhere’ by Yorick Goldewijk and Yvonne Lacet, ‘Lennox and the golden sickle’ by Zinzi Zevenbergen, Brian Elstak and Hedy Tjin and ‘ Shadow of Toet’ by Lida Dijkstra and Djenné Fila.
