Three clubs in the regional league west are difficult to difficult. That could lead to a curious situation.
The 2024/2025 regional league-West season could end without sporting relegation. After the withdrawal from Türkspor Dortmund and the impending bankruptcies at KFC Uerdingen and 1. FC Düren, it could lead to the fact that all three clubs descend into the respective top division due to points. If no club from North Rhine-Westphalia descends from the 3rd league, this would mean that there would be no sporting relegation from the regional league west.
There is currently uncertainty at the 1. FC Düren. The sports newspaper “Reviersport” spoke to Adam Matuschyk, the club’s playing sports director. “At this point, I can neither confirm nor denied that the association goes into bankruptcy,” said Matuschyk. The 36-year-old described the situation as extremely difficult. “The team has not received salaries since January. Trying the club management to work on solutions. In the coming week, we will be a sporting leadership and team with those responsible, there should be a decision on how and whether it can go on,” continued Matuschyk.
The midfielder, who has been active for the 1. FC Düren since October 2020, was surprised by the financial imbalance. According to Matuschyk, a reduced budget was available in the current season compared to the previous season. “The budget was also not covered,” he emphasized. Matuschyk did not want to comment on whether the economic problems are related to ex-President Wolfgang Spelthahn. “I don’t want to participate in this speculation,” he said. Spelthahn is accused of having led 150,000 euros in smuggling funds to the association.
