Dumoulin recovered and therefore started at Volta Limburg Classic | 1Limburg

Tom Dumoulin has announced that he is fit again and will start on Saturday in the Volta Limburg Classic.

The rider’s presence at the event was not certain in advance. He had to give up sick last week in the Tour of Catalonia. Dumoulin has now recovered sufficiently to appear at the start in Eijsden, he informs the organization.

Original plan
With his participation in the Limburg cycling race, Dumoulin is sticking to his original plan towards the Tour of Italy. The Maastricht resident had added the Volta Limburg Classic to his program in order to gain more competition rhythm with this extra race.

Amstel Gold Race
Eight days later, Dumoulin will also start in the Amstel Gold Race. Dumoulin was previously absent from the Strade Bianche due to a positive corona test. The consequences of corona probably ensured that he had no energy to complete the stage race in Catalonia after three hours. Dumoulin is now fit enough to race again.

Hoogestage towards Giro
After the two Limburg races, Dumoulin leaves for Tenerife for an altitude internship. With eleven race days in his legs, he will start in the Giro d’Italia on May 6 in Budapest. The winner of the 2017 Giro has already shown that the small number of race days does not have to be an obstacle to success.

Prologue win
In 2018 he also had eleven race days in his legs when he won the prologue of the Tour of Italy in Jerusalem. Dumoulin had to leave the final win as defending champion in that edition to the Englishman Chris Froome.

Live
The Volta Limburg Classic can be followed live on Saturday 2 April via L1 Television. The broadcast starts at 10.45 am from the Diepstraat in Eijsden.
