Among the many historical debates that exist between journalists and analysts, there is one that always returns: to what extent it is worth investigating the private lives of leaders and officials, to what extent what the people who run the country do within their homes explain or influence what they do outside. Although this controversy is centuries old and is still far from being closed, the case of Javier Milei could well be a watershed: with the libertarian, the impact of his own biography on his political career and even on the direction of his Government is clear. Especially when it comes to his dogs. It is not at all an exaggeration to say that it is impossible to understand the phenomenon without first understanding the unique bond that the economist had with “his true and greatest love,” with whom he ventured “to the limits of the impossible and beyond as well,” that being for whom one day, when his apartment was set on fire, he was literally willing to die: Conan.
This magazine has told that story more than once. The dog, which Milei adopted in 2004, meant for him to experience a containment that he had not experienced before. Persecuted by the ghosts of a violent childhood, between beatings from his father and bullying at school, the economist forged a unique relationship with the animal. The love that by then he had not found in the friends and partners he never had was developed with the dog. In fact, that union was so strong that not even death could separate it: when the dog entered the last stage of its life, Milei had a cell extracted, the beginning of a process that ended with five Conan clones arriving – $50,000 in between – from the United States in 2018. In October of the previous year, her much-loved companion had died.
Why is this story important? Not only because it reveals the extent to which loneliness marked the person who today manages the country’s destinies – someone who has violence and the invitation to hatred as the protagonists of his speech – but because without the death of the animal Milei would not have been president. It is not a metaphor: the death of Conan was the libertarian’s entry into the esoteric world, a path that, between mediums and sorcerers, led to a conversation that the economist believes he had with God, in the quarantine of 2020, where he prophesied that he would be President and ordered him to become a candidate. Until then, Milei had never been involved in politics and swore that she would never get into that mud that she hated so much.
It is impossible to understand the President without his link with Conan and it is impossible to understand his Government without the weight of esotericism and everything that makes the world non-terrestrial. Someone who is very clear about this is Santiago Caputo, who when this medium was about to publish a cover in which he narrated that the President only had four clones of Conan living with him in Olivos – and that the fifth, with whom he claimed to play, he imagined – told the magazine that “publishing that would be a declaration of war.” Days later, Milei himself announced that he wanted Perfil to go bankrupt, the formal beginning of the Government’s hostilities towards this publishing house, which today maintains five lawsuits with the Executive. Dogs and esotericism are central aspects of this ruling party, to the point that after that publication Milei changed the access to public information law via decree to avoid more uncomfortable questions on the subject. In fact, not even those closest to the President dare to ask about this: it is the taboo topic par excellence in the red circle. Everyone knows that the libertarian marks all those who dare to investigate or ask about this topic.
That mystery is now going to grow again. It’s just that one of Milei’s dogs died.
Mourning. The libertarian named him Robert in homage to Robert Lucas. As evidenced by a chat by Milei himself in the book “The Forces of Heaven” (Editorial Planeta), for his owner the animal occupied a special place: within that esoteric/dog council of advisors that he believed he had, Robert was in charge of “seeing his flaws and containing him emotionally while fighting against the darkness.”
By mid-February he was about to turn eight years old: that is the life limit calculated for cloned dogs. The animal had a tumor that was difficult to operate on, and Javier knew the risks when he decided to take him for surgery at the Burgess clinic in San Isidro. The dog survived the procedure, but died in recovery less than 48 hours later. Will you replace it with another clone? As this media reported, in April of last year the President copied Conan again, and after paying 50 thousand dollars, “Junior” arrived.
However, for now in Olivos they are in mourning. And here the intersection between the personal life and the public and political life of the president appears again. Milei, during last year’s elections, announced that he would “stop insulting” and since then tried to show a much calmer profile. That pose exploded into the air at the start of this year, when he once again attacked different businessmen by name and surname or for the violent show he gave at the opening of sessions in Congress. Does it have to do with the fact that he lost the person who “contained him emotionally”?
