Due to criticism: Netflix removes LGBTQ tag from “Dahmer”

Each series and film is provided with specific hashtags by Netflix to make it easier to search for specific works. After the series Dahmer: Monsters: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer was heavily criticized, Netflix decided to remove the LGBTQ tag.

Netflix uses the LGBTQ tag to identify works that feature characters who identify with and represent the LGBTQ community. Dahmer is known to have targeted men and boys, some of whom belonged to this community. It has now been reported that the series has increased the trauma of the families involved – and the community is upset.

“I feel like the day is fetishizing this horrible moment”

Drag performer BJ Daniels told WISN, “I feel like the day fetishized this whole horrific moment in Milwaukee history. It’s not supposed to be seen that way, it just feels completely wrong. I know that many of my friends and many people who lived through this period will not watch the series. You’re not going to put money in someone’s pocket who is literally disturbing victims’ graves.”

The “Dahmer” series was also tagged “gloomy”. It illuminates the story of Jeffrey Dahmer, who murdered several young men and teenagers between 1978 and 1991. He is considered one of America’s most notorious serial killers, whose crimes went unnoticed for over a decade. The Netflix series focuses on his victims.
