Gala after the crash: The South African Kelvin van der Linde won the second DTM race in Zandvoort, Netherlands and made amends one day after the serious setback in Saturday’s race.
The 29-year-old BMW driver from Team Schubert-Motorsport prevailed after 36 laps with a lead of 6.377 seconds over the surprisingly strong German youngster Ben Dörr (Lich).
Van der Linde only ended up in 18th place on Saturday after a collision with former Formula 1 driver Timo Glock and then dominated Sunday with anger in his stomach. He was already ahead in qualifying and then determined the race.
The 21-year-old Dörr drove from fifth place to the podium in the McLaren. It was the first podium of his career for the junior as well as for his team. Behind him came van der Linde’s teammate Marco Wittmann and Maro Engel in the AMG Mercedes, two other Germans. Engel leads the overall standings after four races.
Ferrari driver Matteo Cairoli didn’t get past eleventh place after his victory on Saturday. For Glock, Dörr’s teammate at McLaren, it was only 14th place after the “clear lap” on Saturday.
