The Italian quartet won World Cup gold at the team parallel race. The German team ended in the quarter -finals.
They cheered and fell into their arms. Filippo della vite screamed “Vamos!” in the camera. The Italian team celebrated the first gold medal of the 2025 Ski World Cup on Tuesday evening (04.02.2025).
In the final of the team parallel race, the young quartet around Giorgia Collomb, Filippo Della Vite, Alex Vinatzer and Lara Della Mea prevailed against the favorite team from Switzerland-also because Thomas Tumler failed in the very last run at the start.
Sweden wins bronze
Team Sweden won the small final: Sara Hector, Kristoffer Jakobsen, Estelle Alphand and Fabian Ax Swartz benefited from the departure of Isaiah Nelson and finally celebrated their bronze medal.
Team Germany already in the quarter -finals
For the German team (Lena Dürr, Linus Straßer, Fabiana Dorigo and Fabian Gratz), it was already in the quarter -finals. “This is not frustrating, that was a great performance by the whole team, in the end we left against Switzerland that just did better. The little things make the difference”said Straßer after the race at the Sportschau microphone.
Dürr still felt a little guilty: their time against Switzerland was “Incredibly bad” been: “Unfortunately, that was nothing of me now. But that’s how it is.”
Time decides in favor of Switzerland
The DSV drivers, who mastered the opening hurdle against Slovenia with 4: 0, failed in the quarter-finals due to the strong Swiss. Dürr and Gratz were able to win their duels against Darbellay and Aerni, but Dorigo had a point lying against Wendy Holdener and Straßer had to give up. After the four co-duels it was 2-2, in the addition of the runs of the fastest woman and the fastest man, but the Germans were 0.27 seconds behind. Like the DSV team, hosts Austria had to delete the sail in the quarter-finals.
Johan Eliasch opened WM
For the first time, the opening ceremony was embedded in the first medal decision: musical actors performed a ski song, the FIS President Johan Eliasch opened the world championships of the Alpine with a speech and in a film the spectators accompanied two children through a journey through the Austrian Culture and history. The team parallel race was intended as a mood maker, as the first show under floodlight.
In terms of sport, however, the parallel races have had to struggle with image problems for a long time. The FIS actually wanted to delete the discipline from the program. This year, too, this was expressed in the lack of the top people: Marco Odermatt, Mikaela Shiffrin, Henrik Kristoffersen, Lara Gut-Behrami-they were all missing in the team parallel race.
