Roni Remme has only been on the slopes for the German Ski Association for two and a half years. Now she draws a line under her career.
The German ski racer Veronica “Roni” Remme announced her end of career – at just 29 years. The Canadian native wrote on her Instagram profile: “Skir racing, I love you, but it’s time to say goodbye.”
Remme further explained that this was not the expected end, but nobody could say that she did not give everything. “I think it is incredibly rare for an athlete to retire and have the feeling that they have achieved all of his goals, and I certainly don’t have it.” But she wouldn’t want to change anything, even if she could.
Because: “Every challenge, every fall, every bad decision, every overreaction, every misunderstanding, every injury … Every success, every good decision, every centimeter progress, every victory, every cooperation and every celebration made me the person I am today.” She is proud of that.
She then expressed gratitude to her numerous companions, including family, friends, trainers, teammates and fans. “Nothing would have been possible without your love and support,” said Remme.
It is not yet clear how things will go for the Canadian state champion in the 2014 departure. But she wanted to “remain connected to this fantastic sport,” she said. “Now I will concentrate on my health and to live a pain -free life again,” Remme concluded her statement. In recent years, the athlete had suffered serious injuries, including a cross and inner ligament tear in the right knee in November 2022.
The athlete had participated twice in her career in the Winter Olympics: 2018 in Pyeongchang and 2022 in Beijing. At that time she started for the Canadian association. In October 2022, however, she declared that she wanted to compete for the German Ski Association in the future.
The change of nation was quite easy because Remme’s grandmother came from Germany. The athlete celebrated her first victory for the DSV in December 2023 at the FIS giant slalom in Pampego.
