The German ski jumper Katharina Schmid remains the World Cup leader. When jumping in Engelberg she made it onto the podium again.
Ski jumper Katharina Schmid has once again demonstrated her exceptional form. The 28-year-old only had to admit defeat to the Slovenian winner Nika Prevc in her second place at the World Cup in Engelberg, Switzerland. “With the successes of the last competitions comes self-confidence. It just feels good,” said Schmid. “I’m just in a flow right now.”
Schmid jumped 135 and 123.5 meters. She thus relegated the Norwegian Thea Minyan Bjoerseth to third place. Prevc managed a fabulous jump of 140 meters in the first round. This is a hill record for women in Engelberg.
However, Schmid continues to lead the overall World Cup ahead of Prevc. The Oberstdorf native has won three of the five individual competitions this season. She came second in the other two competitions. Among the men, Pius Paschke, a German, also leads the overall ranking. “It’s definitely inspiring when you know that things are going well for the boys and things are going really well for us,” said Schmid. As the second best German, Selina Freitag ended up in eighth place.
