The German biathlon is in a crisis – today it is up to the women over 15 km individual for precious metal. Is there a surprise? Alpine skiing is also starting now. t-online gives you an overview of where decisions are made.
The German Olympic team is going into this Monday’s Winter Games in China with at best faint hopes of winning a medal. After the disappointing performance of the men on the normal hill, the mixed competition (12.45 p.m. CET) in ski jumping requires an enormous improvement. In the biathlon, the women’s individual race over 15 kilometers is on the program (10:00 a.m.).
Two decisions should be made in the alpine ski competitions. After the cancellation due to strong winds on Sunday, the men’s downhill run (5:00 a.m.) is to be rescheduled, and the women will also compete in the giant slalom (2:30 p.m.). A total of nine competitions are all about precious metals.

figure skating, mixed, from 4:35 a.m.: As is so often the case, the teams from the USA and the Russian Olympic Committee are the biggest contenders for a medal.
Alpine skiing, men’s downhill run, from 5 a.m.: Second attempt – the always eagerly awaited men’s downhill could not take place on Sunday due to strong gusts. Now there is a second attempt on Monday, also for the German alpine quartet Romed Baumann, Andreas Sander, Josef Ferstl and Dominik Schwaiger. Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (Norway) and Beat Feuz (Switzerland) have the greatest chances of winning a medal.
Snowboard, men’s slopestyle, from 5 a.m.: The top favorite for gold is the American Redmond Gerard, who won in Pyeongchang in 2018. Great chances are also calculated for the Canadian Sebastian Toutant. German athletes are not at the start.
Alpine skiing, women’s giant slalom, from 7:30 a.m.: The start times of the women’s giant slalom were adjusted accordingly after the postponement of the men’s downhill. The only German starter is Emma Aicher. Favorites here are defending champion Mikaela Shiffrin (USA), Sara Hector (Sweden), and Petra Vlhova (Slovakia).
Speed skating, women’s 1500 meters, from 9:30 a.m.: Defending champion Ireen Wüst (Netherlands) is also considered a gold contender in 2022, as is her compatriot Antoinette de Jong, the Japanese Ayano Sato and Miho Takagi and the American Brittany Bowe. Michelle Uhrig from Berlin is the only German at the start.
Biathlon, 15 km individual women, from 10 a.m.: After a long break in the individual race over 15 kilometers, Franziska Preuss is back in the competition. At the beginning of the biathlon season, the 27-year-old was considered the most promising German athlete, but was then slowed down by a fall down the stairs and a corona infection.
In the mixed relay on Saturday, Preuss was still missing. Besides her, Denise Herrmann, Vanessa Voigt and Vanessa Hinz are also there in the individual. Favourites: Marte Olsbu Röiseland (Norway), Lisa Theresa Hauser (Austria) and Hanna Öberg (Sweden).
Ski jumping, mixed, from 12:45 p.m.: Despite silver by Katharina Althaus in the women’s singles, the German team only has outsider chances in the mixed competition. The men around Karl Geiger presented themselves too weak in the men’s singles on the smaller hill, Markus Eisenbichler even lost his place in the mixed, instead Constantin Schmid competes.
Althaus and Selina Freitag were nominated from the women’s team. After all, the German selection is the reigning world champion. However, the teams from Japan, Slovenia and Norway are considered medal candidates.
Short track, women’s 500 meters / men’s 1000 meters, from 1:46 p.m.: There are no German athletes in either the women’s or the men’s competitions.
