Umbrellas are not necessary during the commemoration of the dead tonight, weatherman Jan Visser predicts. “Today is dry and sunny, with some clouds later in the day,” he says. For Liberation Day, he recommends taking a thin jacket with you.

The temperature tonight is about 11 degrees, later in the evening there may be some rain.

The weather gods are keeping quiet this year. That was different last year. Then strong gusts of wind of up to 90 kilometers per hour ravaged the entire country and there was a chance of rain for the evening. But at 8 p.m. it was dry during the National Remembrance Day on Dam Square.

Partying in a shirt and shorts tomorrow is out of the question. “Tomorrow there will be a little more cloud, with some rain in the morning. In the afternoon the sun will break through and it will be about 16 degrees,” says Visser.

He does have some clothing advice for visitors to the liberation festivals in Amsterdam and Haarlem: “I would bring a jacket, not a thick jacket, but a thin jacket is recommended.”

“The chance of a shower is greater in the interior than with us in the west”, Visser predicts.

After two years with the public again

This year it is the first commemoration of the dead since 2019 where the public is welcome. Due to the corona virus, only a small group of invited guests were welcome at the various commemorations in the province.

The liberation festivals were also canceled for two years. Last year, the Ambassadors of Freedom Davina Michelle, Tino Martin and Jonna Fraser performed via a live stream. This year, Donnie, Duncan Laurence, Freskku and Suzan & Freek will fly from festival to festival as usual by helicopter.
