DRX from South Korea wins first LoL Worlds title

South Korean team DRX has won its first World Championship title in League of Legends. Against the compatriots of T1 around superstar Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, DRX decided the final of the LoL Worlds in San Francisco with 3: 2.

The series was balanced for large parts. T1 took the lead twice, DRX equalized both times. DRX got off to a better start in the decisive game, but T1 managed to spectacularly steal the Baron reinforcements after a losing teamfight, leaving the game completely open again. DRX grabbed the Elder Dragon in the late game, T1 then tried and failed through the back door. DRX played the advantage to victory.

DRX was the clear underdog in the final. The team around botlaner Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu only went into the LoL World Championship as the fourth best Korean team and had to fight through the play-ins. After placing first in Group C, DRX defeated Edward Gaming from China and tournament favorite Gen.G from South Korea in the playoffs.

T1 had a more dominant run through the tournament. The second-best team in the LCK started straight into the group stage and finished first in Group A. On the way to the final, the team eliminated the Chinese teams RNG and JDG.
